A Knowledge Festival is being launched by the Edinburgh Conference Centre at Heriot-Watt University as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer.

The exciting new event will feature a number of high profile speakers addressing the importance of knowledge in their particular fields of expertise. Speakers already booked include renowned Edinburgh University history professor, Tom Devine and Mercedes Formula One Chief Engineer, Jock Clear.

The launch of the Knowledge Festival coincides with the unveiling of a new website for the Edinburgh Conference Centre at Heriot-Watt University to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The website at www.edinburgh-conference.com also carries more information about the Festival.

Edinburgh Conference Centre Commercial Operations Manager, Lynne Geary said:
“The Knowledge Festival will consist of talks by select speakers on a range of topics and their relationship to knowledge. We think that this type of event will be a popular addition to the Edinburgh Fringe circuit and we hope to introduce knowledge in a less academic, informal and topical way. We also hope that the Festival will raise awareness of the conference centre as the largest not-for-profit venue of its kind in Scotland.

“This is a new venture, with funds going back into the academic work of Heriot-Watt University. This will benefit students from all over the world. We very much hope that the people of Edinburgh and beyond will support the inaugural Knowledge Festival by coming along to one of our talks.”

Knowledge Festival programme:

19 August: Professor Tom Devine, the renowned historian and author will give a talk on: The Scottish Enlightenment – A Puzzle from Knowledge of the Past

20 August: Heriot-Watt University Alumni, Jock Clear is the senior engineer at Mercedes Grand Prix. He will give a talk on engineering knowledge and its application in Formula One.

23 August: To be confirmed.

Each talk will start at 1930 hours and take place at the Edinburgh Conference Centre. Tickets will cost £5 with £3 concessions (Students and Over 65s on production of valid ID). For further information about tickets please contact Lynne Geary at l.geary@hw.ac.uk
